COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Nearly 465,000 people attended this year's South Carolina State Fair in Columbia.
The fair closed at 10 p.m. Sunday.
Officials credit an expanded ride promotion, ideal weather and a record attendance for a Saturday that included a home football game for this year's attendance.
Officials told local media that the 2016 attendance was up nearly 35,000 from the 2015 fair. Last year's fair came as the state struggled to recover from historic flooding.
General manager Gary Goodman says people were clearly glad to be back at the fair under more normal conditions.
He says the expansion of the pay-one-price for rides to every day helped attendance. Previously that had only been offered on weekdays.
The nearly 61,000 who attended Saturday set a record for the best Saturday ever.
