(WLTX) -- This weekend serves as a remembrance to those that lost their lives in the Hiroshima bombings during World War II and one midlands church wanted to honor those who fell.
Shandon Presbyterian Church unveiled a peace pole in front of their church today. The pole has six languages on it, with the phrase “May peace prevail on earth” written on each side of the pole in a different language. David Jones, who is a reverend at the church, says that the pole not only serves as a remembrance of the fallen, but also as a symbol for peace in the community.
“Christ calls us to be peacemakers and this peace pole represents that our dedication to peace in our community,“ Jones said. “Even though we know struggle and strife are real parts in our world, we also are committed to fight for and work for peace in our community.”
The pole can be seen at the church’s entrance on Woodrow street.
