COLUMBIA, S.C. — Paper and wood-products company Georgia-Pacific announced plans on Thursday to invest $40 million to expand operations at the company's plant in Clarendon County.

The Alcolu site processes wood logs into strands to manufacture oriented strand board (OSB) products used in construction.

The expansion would add a third strander machine to increase the annual output of quality OSB products by approximately 150 million square feet, according to the company's press release.

Georgia-Pacific operates five manufacturing facilities and owns acres of tree farms in the state. The Alcolu expansion is expected to be completed and in production by the first quarter of 2023.
