COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina has announced when residents will get the chance to shop tax-free this year as parents begin preparing for the upcoming school year.
The tax-free holiday will run from Friday, Aug. 6 through Sunday, Aug. 8 for this year. South Carolinians will be able to shop for school supplies, clothing, and other items. Eligible items can be bought online or in-store without the six percent sales tax.
"Tax-Free Weekend is a great way for South Carolina shoppers to save money, and it's also a great way to demonstrate our support of South Carolina businesses who have struggled this past year," said South Carolina Department of Revenue Director Hartley Powell in a statement.
The Department of Revenue reports that shoppers in South Carolina bought more than $18.1 million during the 2020 sales tax holiday.
While many electronic and accessory items are included on the list, others are not, including:
- Briefcases and wallets
- Cameras
- Cell phones
- Cleaning supplies
- Computers used in a business
- Cosmetics
- eReaders
- Furniture
- Glasses and contacts
- Jewelry
- Mattresses and box springs
- Office supplies
- Sports equipment
- Videogame consoles
