One person is in custody after at least four people were shot and one has died at an Atlanta public transit station Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.
Police said that the suspect began firing on the train, and then exited at the West Lake station, where he was taken into custody. Five victims were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, police said.
One person was pronounced dead, authorities said in a Thursday afternoon news conference. Three others were treated for gunshot wounds. Another person was treated with an ankle injury.
According to a statement from Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Lake station, located at 80 Anderson Avenue SW. The station has been temporarily closed, and MARTA has set up a bus between stations to accommodate customers during the closure, the statement says.
"It was a regular day until we heard that first gunshot," said Cedric Patterson, who witnessed the shooting.
