Negotiators talk man down from roof in Cayce

Police say the man is being evaluated and no injuries were reported.

CAYCE, S.C. — Cayce police say a man claiming to have a weapon was talked down off a roof after about 5 hours Tuesday morning.

Police say they received a call around 4 a.m. reporting a disturbance at the corner of Slann Drive and Riverhill Court. Upon their arrival, officers say they found a person on the roof of a home who claimed to have a weapon.

Around 8:10 a.m., police warned people people to avoid the area as negotiators from Cayce and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department tried to talk the subject down from the roof.

In a Facebook post this morning, the Cayce Department of Public Safety said "Officers have used exceptional restraints in this situation while negotiating with the subject." Officers said they believed the the subject has a mental illness or is under the influence. 

Around 9:15 a.m., police reported that the man was off the roof and was being transported to a local hospital for evaluation. No one was injured during the incident.
