Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter County schools have made the decision to cancel school on Monday for the total solar eclipse.

"After conferring with several other agencies and due to an abundance of caution, Sumter School District will be closed on Monday, August 21, because of the solar eclipse," the district said in a release. "All after school activities will also be cancelled. The day will be made up with a half day of attendance for students on Friday, October 20, previously scheduled as an in-service day."

The first day of school will now be Tuesday, August 22, and will be a full day.

With that decision, Kershaw County Schools is the only Midlands school district still having classes on the day of the eclipse. They will be in session for only a half-day, however.
