5 lbs of marijuana, THC gummy bears found in Clemson traffic stop

Police are warning parents after a traffic stop led officers to find THC-laced candies.

A Greenville man is behind bars after police in Clemson said they discovered five pounds of marijuana and hundreds of items containing THC during a traffic stop Thursday.

The 32-year-old was charged with trafficking marijuana and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Clemson Police Chief Jimmy Dixon.

His name couldn't be confirmed through warrants.

Dixon said the man was stopped early Thursday morning. After smelling marijuana, police searched the vehicle and found approximately five pounds of marijuana, 50 bags of what appeared to be THC gummy bears and 122 vape pens containing THC as well as 152 refills for those pens, Dixon said.

The total weight of the packages was about 10 pounds, he said.

According to Dixon, the candy bags had the words – “Keep Away from Children and Pets” written on each bag.

"The alarming part of this is how similar the bags appear to those purchased in any store for children – that in reality if picked up by a kid is not going to see or read those words," he said.
