Columbia, SC (WLTX)- Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The chance for rain will continue into the beginning of the workweek. A front will remain north of the area. This will help trigger more showers and storms Monday. High temperatures Monday will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s.

This morning, most of the Central and southern Midlands will have a chance for showers. When we get into the afternoon, we'll start to see some sunshine and with that daytime heating, showers and a few thunderstorms could develop throughout our Midlands communities. We are not under a risk for severe weather, but similar to Sunday, if the storms do develop, we could see heavy rainfall and gusty winds in excess of 40+MPH.

Gradually the rain chances will decrease through the week and the temperatures will increase. A few showers and storms are possible Tuesday, isolated storms are in the forecast for Wednesday. High temperatures both days will be in the lower to middle 90s.

The heat will build in towards the end of the workweek. High temperatures will be in the middle and upper 90s Thursday.

Friday through Sunday temperatures will be in the upper 90s to 100 degrees. If we do hit the triple digits, this would be the first time these air temperatures have climbed to 100.

Heat index values will also increase. Friday through Sunday the heat index values could reach as high as 108 degrees. Be careful if you are doing anything outdoors during the heat of the day.
