West Columbia, SC (WLTX) - More and more businesses are opening their doors in West Columbia.

When we think about West Columbia growth, some think about all the businesses on the other side of the bridge but the growth doesn't stop there.

Mayor Bobby Horton says the areas that have experienced the most growth are State Street, Meeting Street, Triangle City, Dreher Road, Highway 1 areas.

A spreadsheet of the business licenses issued in West Columbia within the last 6 months shows 77 businesses, most of which are on Sunset Blvd. and Augusta Rd.

In 2011 there were more than 1,600 business licenses issued compare that to more than 2,100 last year. Horton credits their business friendliness.

"West Columbia is a great place to do business because from a city stand point we don't have any burdensome regulations, for example" said Horton. "You come in one stop, and you get what you need. You don't have to go somewhere else."

While for small business owner Kristin Roe, it wasn't that easy she still says she made the right decision coming to West Columbia. "We actually were looking in Lexington but the area just wasn't right" said Roe.

She says her favorite part about doing business in West Columbia is the support she's gotten from the community.
