Columbia, SC (WLTX) - They had just been playing video games.

On Friday night, 17-year-old Cisco Knightner was reportedly playing a basketball game with a few friends on the Playstation 4, his family tells News 19. Shortly after midnight, the Columbia Police Department tells us one of them, a 16-year-old, drew a gun and shot him. The family says the suspect was Knightner's lifelong friend.

"I never thought that a friend would just do that to him," said 11-year-old Faith Knightner-Diggs, Knightner's sister.

Knightner was the oldest of nine siblings.

Knightner-Diggs says she had just been texting her brother earlier that day.

"At 9:51 and he never texted back," Knightner-Diggs said.

It was just an ordinary conversation.

"I was just asking him how was he doing, is he good," Knightner-Diggs said.

She never imagined the text would be her last.

"Some type of altercation took place, he was shot and he was deceased on scene," said Chief Deputy Melron Kelly with the Columbia police department. "What caused this to happen, what type of temperament rose to the effect of using a weapon, those are the questions we want answered."

Knightner-Diggs says he was a good big brother.

"He always defended his sisters and brothers and he never gave up on us or himself," Knightner-Diggs said

Through this tragedy, she's trying to remain strong.

"I feel sad, but I know that when I pass I'll see him again," Knightner-Diggs said.
