FBI: More Than 30 Dogs Rescued After Search Breaks Up Dog Fighting Ring

Three men have been arrested and 32 dogs have been rescued after authorities broke up a dog fighting operation in South Carolina.

Columbia, SC (AP)- Three men have been arrested and 32 dogs have been rescued after authorities broke up a dog fighting operation in South Carolina.

According to the FBI said the operation was discovered last week when while warrants were being served on three Columbia men thought to be convicted felons in possession of guns and ammunition.

FBI Supervisory Special Agency Donald Wood said during the weapons searches, the dog fighting operation and dogs were discovered.

22 year-old Dequan Antonio Smith, 32 year-old Brooks Barchee Gillie and 46 year-old Tony Shuler have been charged with weapons violations.

The dogs have been taken to an American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals temporary shelter. They will remain there until a court decides where the dogs should go.

It was not known if the men have attorneys yet.
