Gamecocks Set To Take On Buffalo

Dawn Staley's USC Gamecocks enter the Sweet 16 for the fifth consecutive season and sixth time in the past seven years.

Albany, NY (WLTX) -- Dawn Staley's USC Gamecocks enter the Sweet 16 for the fifth consecutive season and sixth time in the past seven years and like last year, their opponent comes in after knocking off a higher seeded team on their home floor.

Buffalo enters the game with a 21-5 record and have won 13 of their past 14 games.

On Monday night Buffalo knocked off Florida State 86-65 in Tallahassee to advance to their first Sweet 16. Last year it was Quinnipiac who beat Miami in Coral Gables to earn a spot in the Stockton Regional against USC. The Gamecocks dispatched Bobcats 100-58.

The two teams have only met once, that meeting came on November 17, 2007 where the Gamecocks knocked off the Bulls 66-54 at Colonial Life Arena.

A win tomorrow for USC would be the school's fourth Elite 8 birth and third in the Dawn Staley era. Staley has guided the program to two Final Four's including last year's national title.

The Gamecocks and Bulls will tip off at 11:30 am Saturday.
