Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The high winds from Hurricane Matthew has led to closed roads across the Midlands, as snapped powerlines and trees have fallen across numerous roadways.

While the Midlands is between 75 and 150 miles from the coast, that didn't spare the area from damage. Winds gusted as high as 61 miles an hour in some communities in the area. Most areas saw gusts between 40-50 miles an hours.

While most communities saw damage, the worst of the storm's effects appeared to be concentrated in lower Richland County, Clarendon County, Orangeburg County, Sumter County, and Lee County. A section of Interstate 20 in Lee County was blocked in both directions over a nine mile stretch due to debris.
