Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The hot, humid weather will continue this week. There will be a chance for some relief in the form of a shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon and evening hours.
The weekend was hot and muggy. High temperatures were in the lower 90s, but heat index values hit the lower 100° range in many areas. Heat index values this week will remain in the lower 100° range during the afternoon.
Some showers and storms will be possible during the heat of the day every day this week. Any thunderstorm that does develop could produce damaging winds and locally heavy downpours.
A series of disturbances are expected to move through the area over the next several days. This may spark off more thunderstorms during the afternoon. Scattered afternoon storms are expected Monday. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s with the increased rain chance and the clouds.
Tuesday through Thursday there will be a chance for shower and storms each day. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 90s.
Friday and Saturday, only isolated storms are expected. High temperatures will remain in the lower to middle 90s. There could be a slightly better chance for rain Sunday.
