Columbia, SC (WLTX)- Sixteen percent of all homeless people in South Carolina are veterans.

A new program looks to help those veterans find employment and housing, all without any cost.

Telamon Corporation received a grant back in July to help 100 homeless vets get back on their feet.

Homeless Veterans Reintegration program coordinator, Debra Young says they've had a hard time getting the word out and so far have only reached eight people.

There are a few requirements; the veteran needs to prove that they are either homeless, in imminent danger of becoming homeless or in a domestic violence situation.

Once that is done, Telamon will work one on one with the veteran to connect them with resources like vouchers for the security deposit, first months rent or payments for utilities.

They're available in five counties: Richland, Lexington, Kershaw, Fairfield and Calhoun County.
