Laurens County, SC (WLTX) — Interstate 26 is back open following a fatal accident in Laurens County on Sunday.
The interstate was closed for a period Sunday afternoon after a two vehicle crash that killed one person.
Lance Corporal Gary Miller with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the two vehicle accident happened at approximately 2:15 p.m. near mile-marker 59, which is near the Whitmire Highway exit.
Troopers said two SUVs were traveling Interstate 26 East when the two collided. One of the SUVs, a Jeep Wrangler, overturned and the driver was ejected and died at the scene. L. Cpl. Miller said it was unclear if the person in the Jeep was wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
