Lexington, SC (WLTX) - A Lexington woman will spend life in prison for killing her 7-month-old daughter.
The 11th Circuit Solictor's office says a jury found 23-year-old Heather Marie Lawson guilty of homicide by child abuse for the 2016 death of her 7-month-old girl, Addyson Tuckus. The judge then imposed the sentence that does not allow for the possibility of parole.
On June 26 of last year, paramedics were called to Lawson's home on Weaver Drive after her child was found lifeless. Responding personnel said they found bruising on the child's head.
An autopsy determined that Addyson died from repeated blows to her head.
Investigators said Lawson's story about how the child got injured kept changing, which led them to conclude she was the one responsible. Lawson was also the only adult at the home at the time the child was injured.
A pathologists testified that the bruising on the little girl's head was caused by the use of a blunt instrument, such as a fist. The injuries led to a swelling on the brain.
“The tragic death of this 7 month old baby is heartbreaking," said Eleventh Circuit Solicitor Rick Hubbard. "It’s our responsibility to make sure her death doesn’t go unpunished. Our office has worked tirelessly over the years to bring murderers like Lawson to justice while giving a voice to our voiceless. Hubbard further commented, This conviction is yet another example of what we can accomplish when our prosecutors and law enforcement work together for justice. Lawson will spend the rest of her life in prison – this is what justice looks like in Lexington County.
