Missing 77-year-old truck driver from Columbia found safe

Deputies say James Hucks never made it to the next location on his route delivering newspapers.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says a missing newspaper delivery driver from Columbia has been found safe in North Carolina.

Officers said late Monday afternoon that 77-year-old James Hucks had been located. They did not give further details on his discovery.

Hucks was working his regular route for The State newspaper early Monday morning when he failed to make it to his next location. He was last seen at the U.S. Post Office off Dixiana Road in West Columbia around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, June 17.

He had last been seen driving his white Chevrolet truck with “The State Newspaper” written on both sides and the number “54” on the roll-up door on the back.

Officers were concerned because he suffers suffering from a medical condition and an irreversible deterioration of intellectual faculties, according to deputies.
