Columbia, SC (WLTX) - We want to thank you for coming to the Harvest Hope Food Bank food drive, and helping to make a difference in the lives of others!

Hundreds of you stopped by WLTX studios Thursday to donate food items and money. When added up, those donations will be able to serve 45,500 meals.

In the coming days, the food will go to two primary efforts to help people in need in our state: the mobile food pantries for people displaced from last year's flood, and the people who've recently been affected by Hurricane Matthew.

During the most recent storm, many people lost power, causing food in their homes to spoil. Others were even worse off, and lost everything inside their houses. But with this donation, they're going to get some help.

"This is important that they know that someone just a few miles down the road has loved for and cared for them and has made a difference in their lives when they don't have anything to eat," said Denise Holland, Harvest Hope's CEO.

During the event, WLTX donated $5,000 to Harvest Hope.

The event was part of Make a Difference Day, a nationwide event to coordinate volunteers to improve their local communities.
