Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia Police now confirm that a woman with a concealed weapons permit presented a gun at the scene where a man is accused of striking 12 people with his car at a funeral.
James Kester, 64, is charged with 12 counts of attempted murder. Police say on Wednesday he intentionally ran a car into a crowd at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Jennifer Timmons, Columbia Police Department's public information officer, tells News19 a woman attending the funeral had a valid concealed weapons permit. Timmons says the person displayed their gun. Kester remained on the scene and was arrested when officers arrived minutes later.
Police say Kester attacked the crowd because of a grudge he held against the Department of Mental Health. The funeral was for a woman who was a long time employee of the state agency.
