Camden, SC (WLTX) -- In Kershaw County, there's an inn that gives people not only a great place to stay, but a little history too.

Bloomsbury Inn in Camden continues to get noticed by people around the nation.

“This was house was built in 1854 by James Chesnut,” Co-Owner Bruce Brown explained. "He built this house for his daughter Sally so she would have something upon his death."

Brown said the original builder of the house was reported to be the third wealthiest plantation owner in South Carolina.

Brown and his wife Katherine purchased the home about 12 years ago.

“The two of us living in this big old white house, was just going to be a little overwhelming so we decided to just have people here all the time,” Katherine Brown explained with a smile.

“We offer all the top amenities,” Katherine Brown said. “We're also located in a quaint little city that has a lot to offer so when people come here, they're amazed.”

“The guests want to talk to us about our life experience but we're more interested in their life experience,” Bruce Brown said.

The pair say their love for people drove them to open a bed and breakfast after retiring from the Air Force.

“You have to have a love for people. You have to want people in your home,” Katherine Brown said. “So it's a passion to want to be able to share everything with great people.

Bloomsbury Inn was recently awarded another TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and was selected as one of the top 10 most romantic inns out of 17-thousand by I Love Inns.
