Columbia, SC (WLTX) – Contestants almost ready to celebrate their 100th birthdays took part in a hot dog eating contest Wednesday.
The Forest Pines Retirement Community hosted the competition.
“I didn't finish the first one, I don't eat very fast you know,” 92-year-old Bobbi Mitchell explained. “I just thought it'd be fun and it has been. I've enjoyed it.”
“It was fun. I ate three dogs, not quite Champion,” 96-year-old Orey Gracey said with a smile and a shrug.
Residents, workers and their families participated.
“You’re never too old to do anything and that you only live once,” Forest Pines’ Matt Norris said. “It’s my job to come up with fun exciting things.”
A resident's family member and an employee won the competition.
They ate 3.5 hot dogs in two minutes and went home with $25.
Norris said he wanted to get everyone ready for National Hot Dog Day on July 19.
