Cayce, SC (WLTX) - Christmas time is here and many people in the Midlands are heading over to the South Carolina State Farmers Market to buy their Christmas tree.

Some spend Christmas celebrating Jesus’ birth, spending time with family, and many other reasons. Whatever the reason for the season, one thing you'll find in almost every home is a Christmas tree.

While some are looking for the right height tree, Blanche Weathers is looking for the one with the right personality.

"I'm a little bit picky about my tree. The tree that I have is a more natural-cut. So it has fewer limbs and it really leaves a lot of space to show the ornaments," said Weathers.

There are several different tree farmers that help sell what they have to families in the Midlands.

Allen Combs has been in the Christmas Tree game for over thirty years. The North Carolina tree expert has been heading to the State Farmers Market for the last several years.

"I look forward and we look forward to seeing the same people that look forward to seeing us," explained Combs.

While helping run "A and S Tree Farms," he's learned it takes a while to grow Christmas' most recognizable decoration.

"These big trees, you can have ten to fifteen years in them and it’s just about the size of them. This one right here probably took about ten years to grow after it went into the field," said Combs.

Kelly Carter is just glad that the Christmas spirit is in the air and what's coming up next. She says she comes with her family every year to get a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. Her family ended up driving away with four trees.

"This one was really tall and full. Exactly what we need. Decorating our Christmas Tree and makes the living room smell like Christmas," said Carter.

The market will be open Monday through Saturday from 6 am until 9 pm. On Sundays, it will be open from 8 am until 7 pm.
