SC Wildlife Officer Wounds Suspect in Litter Probe

A South Carolina wildlife officer has shot and wounded a man during a litter surveillance operation.

Dillon, SC (AP) - A South Carolina wildlife officer has shot and wounded a man during a litter surveillance operation.

Dillon County Sheriff's Capt. Cliff Arnette says the shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday just off state Highway 57.

State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said the shooting involved an officer with the Department of Natural Resources. There was a confrontation with a man in a vehicle prior to the shooting, but details have not been released.

The officer was not hurt. His name has not been released.

Officials have not released the name of the man who was wounded. Berry said the man is expected to recover.

Berry said it's the 23rd shooting involving a law enforcement officer in South Carolina this year.
