Sumter, SC (WLTX) - A preliminary autopsy shows the skeletal remains found by kids in a wooded area this weekend belong to a middle-aged white male.

Sumter Police and the Sumter County Coroner's office began an investigation Sunday after a group of children alerted their parents of the discovery off Gaines Road near Dillon Park.

Although identity and cause of death couldn't be determined, a pathologist found the man's age to be between 55 and 60 years old. Dental records of missing people in the region are currently being located to compare with the remains.
