(WLTX)-- The North Carolina Forest Service said wildfires continue to burn in the Southern Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee and North Carolina.

The National Weather Service in Spartanburg County issued a air quality warning for the upstate region of South Carolina Wednesday morning. Smoke is visible in that region. In the Midlands, smoke became visible Wednesday in Newberry, Lexington and parts of Richland Counties although a warning was not issued.

The North Carolina Forestry Commission said that it could take days, or even weeks to contain the fire.
