Richland and Lexington, SC (WLTX) - While your kids are enjoying their summer break from school, they can still learn and have fun with summer camps in Lexington and Richland counties.

Richland One has a variety of camps that encourage reading and activity to prevent the 'summer slide.' Fees for these camps range from free to weekly fees. You can check the camps and prices for each here.

Richland One teacher Teri Marriott-Riley says they want to keep the kids on the right track. "What we're trying to prevent is that when they come back to us in August, that we're not starting over," said Marriott-Riley. "They're right there where they need to be.

Over at EdVenture, children are able to take part in camps around engineering, arts and crafts, cooking and more. Fees range from $195 to $225 per week. EdVenture members receive up to a fifteen percent discount on signature and specialty camps.

Tiffany Collins helps coordinate the summer camps at the children's museum, and she understands how important it is for kids to learn a variety of things.

"They'll end school at one place and they'll get their kids back and be at a different place. We really try to address that so that they are still learning, they're still growing during the summer," said Collins. "With a variety of different things, they're learning and growing with all subjects."

Crossing the Congaree River to Lexington County, your kids can stay physically active and creative through Lexington Recreational Programs. The programs, available at all of their facilities, go all day, from 7:15 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Registration fees range from $50 to $110 a week. Add a sibling for a $10 discount.

Kyana Merritt with the Lexington County Recreation Commission says they'll have your kids running around all the time. "We're keeping all kids active at all times so there's no nap time, no time to sit down," said Merritt. "It's a healthy thing to keep them moving and let them enjoy yourselves."
