A low-speed chase in Sumter Wednesday evening left a Sumter deputy injured, according to Sumter County Sheriff's Office public information deputy Ken Bell.
Deputies say the chase began around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday on Mooneyhan Road when a car drove through a license checkpoint and wound its way through the city. According to Bell, both Sumter police and Sumter County deputies were involved.
During the chase, a deputy hit a tree, according to Bell. The deputy was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
As the chase continued through the city, deputies used stop sticks to stop the car. The car flipped over on Atlantic road, according to Bell. The driver was not injured.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
