Sumter County, SC (WLTX) -- The Sumter Police Department is investigating a shooting outside of a apartment complex in Sumter Sunday afternoon.

Officers said they found 17-year-old Joshua Goodman shot in the parking lot of the apartment complex on Peach Street about 1:45 p.m. Goodman was transported to Palmetto Health Tuomey, where he later died.

Sumter Police said the initial investigation indicates that this was an isolated incident, and the victim may have known the shooter.

The Sumter County School District released this statement Monday morning:

"Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with Joshua’s family. The loss of a student, teammate, classmate and friend has a significant impact on both our students and staff. Joshua was an important part of the Crestwood High School family, and he will be greatly missed.

Crestwood High School is very sensitive to the emotional needs of our students and staff. Our Crisis Support Team will be on hand to assist anyone at school who may need assistance coping with this tragic loss."
