Suspect Hid in Attic After Fleeing Traffic Stop, Deputies Say

Sumter County, SC (WLTX) - A Sumter man is facing drug and weapon charges after evading police Monday.

Deputies say 32-year-old Demetrius Johnson refused to stop for officers, then crashed his vehicle on Woodlawn Avenue, which was only a short distance from Johnson's residence.

Johnson was later found hiding in his attic when Sumter police and K-9 tracked from the vehicle to his home on North Milton Road.

A firearm and suspect crack cocaine were found inside his vehicle.

Johnson is charged with failure to stop for blue lights and siren, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and felon in possession of a firearm. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants from the South Carolina Probation, Parole and Pardon Service.
