Sumter School Bus Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - A man who Sumter police say hit a school bus, then fled Monday morning has been taken into custody.

Police say 35-year-old Marcus Antonio Nelson was driving a black, older-model Crown Victoria when he hit a school bus at red light on Pinewood Road, then drove off. About 35 people, including students and the bus driver, were treated for minor injuries.

Nelson was located and arrested Friday morning without incident, according to the Sumter Police Department.

The vehicle was found abandoned at a residence on Wright Street with heavy front-end damage.

Nelson was reportedly out on bond in connection to weapons, drug and multiple traffic offenses, and faces charges for leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, driving under suspension-7th offense and habitual traffic offender.
