Sydney Moore - Making of a Soldier

From the University of Kentucky to Fort Jackson, Sydney Moore faces the challenges of the Army.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- From the University of Kentucky to Fort Jackson, Sydney Moore is from a military family. She is keeping her family tradition alive by going into the United States Army.

Moore is a 19-year-old sophomore, she is double majoring in special education and in Arabic and Islamic studies.

"All the way back from beginning of my family was Army," said Moore. She said, "My dad retired from the Army."

She said her mom was not supportive of her decision to join the Army at first, but now Moore says her mom is excited.

"When I was in high school I always thought about joining the military instead of going to college, but then I fell in love with special education," said Moore.

"As soon as I go on campus I saw ROTC and completely fell in love with the program," according to Moore.

She hopes to get fit during basic training, not just physical shape but in better shape mentally as well.

Moore said, "It is a great opportunity (US Army) for me because it is completely paying for my education, which is very important for me and it is also setting me up for life.
