Talking To Your Family After Tragedy

Trauma Expert Jennifer Wolff shares how to cope and help your children after a tragedy.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Trauma Expert Jennifer Wolff joins News 19 to help you and your family cope after a tragedy.

She says the most important thing to do is establish normalcy and shield them from graphic images. Think of ways your child has coped with other situations in the past and remind them that there are more good days than bad.

There are several mental health red flags you should be aware of when talking to your child. These are things that require immediate attention:

  • Saying they want to repeat the actions of a mass shooter
  • Speaking irrationally and participating in dangerous behavior
  • And severe changes such as refusing to get out of bed, eating or interacting
