Victims Identified in Fatal Cab Shooting

Both victims were pronounced dead.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police say two people are dead after an argument broke out over cab fare early Saturday morning.

A teen and a Blue Ribbon cab driver reportedly shot each other inside the vehicle after three teenagers requested a cab and arrived at 926 Johnson Avenue shortly before 1 a.m.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals. The teen, identified as 18-year-old Marques A. Hallman, reportedly died from multiple upper body gunshot wounds early Saturday morning. The cab driver, 38-year-old Rayvon Wilmot was transported to Palmetto Health Richland, where he died Saturday morning from a gunshot wound to the head..

The two other passengers ran to safety and were not injured.

The incident was one of two fatal overnight shootings involving teenagers in Columbia.

“Three people lost their lives because of petty arguments that led to senseless crimes," said Columbia Police Chief W.H. Holbrook. "Two of the victims and a suspect in these cases were teenagers who had direct and unlawful access to guns. Too many people are quick to settle disputes in a violent manner. We, along with our community partners are working to prevent this type of violence.”

Police say the firearms have been recovered, and are working to determine the origin. The investigation is ongoing.
