Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies say two teenagers broke into a church and vandalized the building earlier this week.
Tristian Harmon and Skylar Shuley, both 17, are charged with second-degree burglary, malicious injury to a place of worship, safecracking, two car break-ins, grand larceny and conspiracy.
An incident report says on Monday afternoon, an employee of the church said he came in and found damage. Deputies say curse words, images of male genitalia, and other sayings were spray-painting inside the building. Several small crosses had been painted red, as well as the piano and organ.
Floor adhesives and cleaners had also been dumped on the floors and walls. Officers say office papers had been thrown all over the floors and were trashed.
A small safe was also broke into, but it's unclear if something was taken. However, a golf cart was stolen, but was later recovered.
“Based on our investigation, these two did some heavy damage to the inside of the church Monday,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Fortunately, investigators returned several items back to the church and recovered the golf cart.”
The two are also tied to car break-ins.
