Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A cold front will become stationary across the southern Midlands on Sunday and will slowly weaken over the next few days. The front will be the focal point for afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The rain will occur earlier in the afternoon on Sunday and that will help keep temperatures down in the afternoon. It will still be hot and humid.

There will be a better chance for showers and thunderstorms on Monday with the front still in the area. The chance for rain will begin to diminish and will be a little less each day. Only a slight chance of a thunderstorm is expected on Thursday. However, the heat will begin to build as the chance for rain diminishes. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s for the latter half of the workweek..

The chance for showers and thunderstorms will be increasing into next weekend. This will help keep temperatures near normal for this time of year. Most of the thunderstorms will be in the afternoon and early evening hours.
