The Kershaw County Coroner has released the name of the man who died as a result of a crash on Interstate 20 Friday morning. The man was a passenger in the bed of a pick-up truck, whose driver is charged with felony DUI.

Coroner David West identified the man as 63-year-old Charles Harrell Grooms, from Laurinburg, N.C.

The crash happened about 3:00 a.m. Friday morning, in the eastbound lanes of I-20, near mile marker 87.

West says Grooms was thrown from the pickup on impact with the second vehicle, transported to the hospital and died there.

The Highway Patrol says the truck Grooms was riding in had stopped on the interstate and had its lights off. Investigators say 26-year-old Bruce Clark, of North Carolina, is facing felony DUI charges, in connection with the wreck. Clark was driving the vehicle Grooms was in.

The person driving the vehicle that struck the pickup from behind was also transported to the hospital, as a result of the crash. At the time, authorities said the driver was in serious condition.
