Victim in Fatal Northeast Richland County Shooting Identified

The shooting happened in northeast Richland County just off Percival Road late Wednesday night.

The victim in a fatal shooting in northeast Richland County from Wednesday night has been identified.

Coroner Gary Watts says 23-year-old Adam Paul DuBuose, who also went by the last name Legrand, was killed when he was shot on Brazell Road just before 5:30 p.m. Brazell Road is just off Percival Road.

Richland County Sheriff's Department Captain Maria Yturria says the suspect, 21-year-old Kenneth Dylan Shirley, shot and killed DuBuose at that location, and also wounded a woman with gunfire.

Yturria says the female victim was taken to the hospital.

It's not known what led up to the shooting yet, but investigators say the suspect is an acquaintance of the victims.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they tracked down the suspect into the nearby woods. Yturria says Dillon fired shots at officers, but because they couldn't get a clear shot, they did not return fire.

Officers waited for more officers from the special response team to arrive. At that point they surrounded Dillon, and were able to take him into custody after an hour-long search.

Deputies recovered a semi-automatic pistol on him, Yturria says.

Officers continue to talk to witnesses to get more insight into what may have led to the crime.
