Cayce, SC (WLTX) - The Cayce Department of Public Safety has released a dash cam video showing a confrontation between officers and a suspect that ended with the suspect being shot and killed by one of the officers.
The incident happened back on November 17th in the 1900 block of Lorick Street, which is off of State Street, in Cayce. Police say they were trying to place 21-year-old Demetrius Shelley Bryant under arrest on drug-related charges. Previous Coverage: Suspect Killed in Confrontation with Police
Both officers--identified as Public Safety Officer Rhett Kelly and Sgt. Frank Ballentine--were cleared of any wrongdoing.
In the video, one of the officers can be seen approaching Bryant's car as he was sleeping. Bryant wakes up, and exits the vehicle.

The officers inform Bryant that he's going to be taken into custody for marijuana possession, but that the offense is a minor. Bryant can be heard complaining about his hand.
As the officers are restraining him, Bryant can be seen pulling a weapon from his back pocket, and firing at them. Kelly is struck in the leg by a bullet. Bryant runs behind a nearby house, and one of the officers pursues him. Off-camera, more gunfire can be heard, and Bryant was struck.
On the tape, the officer who pursued him is out of breath, and says that one of the bullets from Bryant flew right beside his head.
It was later determined that Bryant had two gunshot wounds to the upper body.
The State Law Enforcement Division conducted an investigation, and presented their findings to the 11th Circuit Solicitor's Office, who concluded there was a "lack of any sufficient evidence that would support criminal charges against our officers." An internal investigation by Cayce DPS found no violations of police procedure.
Kelly, who's been in law enforcement for eight years, has returned to work on limited duty as he recovers from his injuries. Ballentine, a 23-year police veteran, returned to full duty on February 8.
