"Why did he have to go?" Sister of 14-Year-Old Killed Wants Answers

"Before he died, I sent him a text message, saying that I loved him. When he died, he didn't even get to look at the text message."

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The family of a 14-year-old boy killed in a shooting on St. Andrews Road Sunday morning is looking for answers.

Tiquan Taylor, 14, of Irmo died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to Richland County coroner Gary Watts.

"Why did he have to go? Why couldn't I be with him for just a little bit longer?" Tiquan's 11-year-old sister, Na'aja Harrison asked.

Taylor was a student who at Gray Collegiate Academy who was a freshman on the junior varsity basketball team.

Friends and family described Tiquan as the life of the party, always making people laugh.

"He wasn't in any drama. He was very chill. He was just someone you could gravitate close to. He was just trustworthy. You could trust him with anything," said Joydan Fouse.

Deputies say they responded to a shooting in the 1500 block of St Andrews Road Sunday. In addition to Taylor, another victim was shot and taken to the hospital.

"Before he died, I sent him a text message, saying that I loved him," Harrison said, in tears. "When he died, he didn't even get to look at the text message."
