One Year Away: Charlotte Hosts NBA All-Star Weekend in 2019

As this season's NBA All-Star Game festivities are underway in Los Angeles, the Queen City is getting ready to host the annual showcase in February 2019.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- As this season's NBA All-Star Game festivities are underway in Los Angeles, the Queen City is getting ready to host the annual showcase in February 2019.

The hosting of the NBA All-Star Game will provide publicity for the city and will allow people to see what the Carolinas and Charlotte both have to offer.

Charlotte Hornets officials previously stated the NBA All-Star game festivities will bring an estimated $100 million to the Queen City.

Charlotte was originally awarded as the host city for the 2017 All-Star game before the NBA moved it to New Orleans in response to the controversy surrounding North Carolina's House Bill 2.

“We here at the Hornets organization are against discrimination in any form or fashion,” said Charlotte Hornets president Fred Whitfield in previous interviews.

Whitfield was one of the local business owners that worked behind the scenes on a compromise that led to a partial repeal of HB2.

“it was quite an experience in trying to get some progress in moving past HB2,” Whitfield previously said.

The efforts paid off as the Queen City was awarded the game for 2019.

NBA great and Hornets Chairman Michael Jordan previously released the following statement:

"We look forward to serving host for NBA All-Star 2019 and welcoming all visitors and guests to the Spectrum Center."
