Trenton, SC (CBS News)- SWAT teams removed six correctional officers caught in a riot early Thursday at the Trenton Correctional Institute, reports CBS Augusta, Georgia affiliate WRDW-TV.

Two of the six corrections officers rescued from the facility were injured, according to Brian Sterling with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. None of those injuries are life-threatening.

Sterling says the incident happened before midnight when officers noticed an inmate with a cell phone. He says when they tried to take it from him, the inmate resisted. Other inmates then joined the fight. Sterling says the fight then spread to a second prison dormitory.

The prison has three dormitories in all.

Sterling says inmate access to cell phones is the leading problem for the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

No inmates were injured in the riot.

There were several fires inside, but all were believed to have been extinguished.

The South Carolina Department of Corrections tweeted a thank you to Aiken County Sheriff's office, EMS, Firefighters and SLED for assisting.

There is no word on how many inmates were involved.
