In his final regular season game at The Citadel, former Ben Lippen standout Tyler Renew made sure he made it memorable.

Renew rushed for a career-high 285 yards and a personal-best three touchdowns as The Citadel stayed unbeaten with a 37-34 overtime win over No. 18 Samford on Saturday. That performance earned Renew the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week award.

Renew narrowly missed the school mark of 286 rushing yards set in 1988. It was the highest rushing performance in the SoCon this season and the second-highest in the FCS. Renew’s 285 yards was the first 200-yard rushing performance at The Citadel since 2013 and the most by a SoCon player since Georgia Southern’s Jerick McKinnon rushed for 316 against Central Arkansas in 2012.

The fifth-ranked Bulldogs also set a new mark with their ninth consecutive win which clinched at least a share of the Southern Conference title. They can win it outright with a victory Saturday at VMI.
