Saturday was the final round of the Midlands Chevy Dealers City Tournament at the Columbia Country Club. This tournament had a senior, super senior, professional, junior and amateur division.
Former Blythewood Bengal and College of Charleston golfer Shane Rogan came into Saturday's round with a three shot lead. Rogan picked up where he left in round two. He got a 4 shot lead with back to back birdies on 12 and 13.
Rogan channeled some inner Phil Mickelson; getting out of trouble on the 15th hole with a nice shot of the trees that landed on the green. He would par the.
Chase Fisher and Bryce Howell were in the final group with Rogan and despite some nice play on the back nine from them they could touch Rogan.
Rogan win this year's title by four strokes, finishing -7 after shooting 213 at the end of three rounds.
"Man it feels unbelievable. I've been playing in this tournament since I was 15, 16 year's old and I'm 25 now. It took 9 times, 10 times now but I got it done and it feels great," Rogan said.
He's happy to have his name alongside Palmetto State legends.
"I watched guys win it like Dustin Johnson and Steve Liebler and just Columbia legends. It feels great to be on a list with those guys. It was quite a day."
The Columbia native is now eyeing a professional career.
"I'm thinking about turning pro maybe at the end of the summer , maybe August or September but I'm still not sure yet. Just trying to see where my game is competitively but this is a big confidence booster and a big stepping stone for me," Rogan said.
Next up for Rogan is the US Amateur qualifier which will be this week. July 5th and 6th at the Columbia Country Club.
