The Newberry Wolves be in Charleston taking on the defending Southern Conference Champion Citadel Bulldogs to start the year. The Citadel had their first practice of the season this morning.

The Bulldogs have won the last two SoCon championships but in-state foe Wofford was picked to win the conference title.

Second year head coach Brent Thompson and the Bulldogs were picked to be the runner up. Thompson and quarterback Dom Allen are still focused on a three-peat despite the preseason snub.

"It's always been our goal here to win a conference championship and move on to the playoffs. I don't know that our goals have ever changed when we got year three or four years ago but now we'll continue to fight for those goals and hopefully keep moving on in the playoffs," Thompson said.

Allen is trying to build off of those consecutive conference titles.

"It's something very special but we have to work week to week at first. We can't let our eyes get too big. So we just to come out here and stay focused and focus on what we do and remember who we are and what we represent."

The Citadel and Newberry will kickoff on September 2nd at Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston.
