Deebo Samuel has proven his versatility for the USC offense by being an effective receiver while also scoring touchdowns on the ground and even on a kickoff return.

That ability is why the junior is on the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, which is given annually by the Louisville Sports Commission to college football's most versatile athlete. It is named after the former the longtime Green Bay Packer who his former coach Vince Lombardi called "the most versatile athlete to ever play the game".

Samuel led the Gamecocks in receiving in 2016 with 59 catches for 783 yards. He had just one receiving touchdown but tied for the team lead with six rushing touchdowns. Against Western Carolina had a 100-yard kickoff return for a score. In last's year's final game of the season, he tied the school’s single-game record with 14 receptions and set Birmingham Bowl records with 14 catches for 190 yards against USF.

Samuel is already on the Maxwell Award Watch List, which is given to America’s College Player of the Year.
