Father-Daughter Duo Help Hammond Make History With SCISA Title

One of the storylines from the Hammond girls team winning their first state title in 25 years is that Roshan Myers, the head coach, is also the father of senior guard Ahlea Myers .

Ahlea, a News 19 Player of the Week, is headed to Charleston Southern with a state title in tow. She had a game high 14 points as Hammond defeated rival Cardinal Newman 42-31 after physical, low-scoring first half to end the championship drought for the Skyhawks.

"You know it's priceless. She gets it tough. She gets it at home, she gets it on the court and she just don't pay me no mind and she goes out here and fights every time.," Roshan said.

Roshan was beaming with pride because he also watched another senior in Presbyterian bound Trinity Johnson, who scored 10 points in the victory, and his daughter contribute in a big way to make Saturday night's win over rival Cardinal Newman a historic one for Hammond.

"I almost have two daughters. Because I've been coaching Trinity since she was in the second grade as well so both of those young ladies are the key to our winning."

Roshan added,"we really just talked about believing in yourself and not worrying about the end product but worry about one possession at a time so it paid off."
