KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (AP) -- Adam Atkins and three other pitchers combined for a shutout as the Columbia Fireflies topped the Kannapolis Intimidators 4-0 on Saturday.
Atkins (2-0) picked up the win after he allowed two hits over 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Blake Hickman (2-5) went five innings, allowing three runs and six hits in the South Atlantic League game. He also struck out five and walked three.
In the top of the fourth, Columbia grabbed the lead on a ground out by Arnaldo Berrios that scored Jacob Zanon. The Fireflies then added two runs in the sixth and a run in the ninth. In the sixth, Dash Winningham hit a two-run home run, while Zanon hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Ian Strom in the ninth.
Andres Gimenez was a home run short of the cycle, also stealing a base in the win.
The Intimidators were held scoreless for the eighth time this season, while the Fireflies' staff recorded their 13th shutout of the year.
