A busy Thursday was on tap for the 53 angles competing in the FLW Forrest Wood Cup which is being held on Lake Murray.
In the morning, several professional fisherman made a stop at Palmetto Health Children's Hospital where they signed autographs for the kids. In the evening, the anglers put on their best suits as they hit the red carpet at the USC Alumni House for an event to officially kick off the Forrest Wood Cup event.
On Friday morning, 53 of the best anglers in the country will be on Lake Murray with the goal of winning the trophy and the $300,000 first place prize. The last time this event was held in the Midlands, Prosperity's Anthony Gagliardi was the one standing on the stage with the confetti raining down.
The fishermen will be on the lake at the crack of dawn each day - Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before returning for weigh-ins which are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. each day at the Colonial Life Arena.
There are numerous events going on this week in relation to the Forrest Wood Cup including an FLW Expo at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center which runs Friday-Sunday. On Saturday and Sunday, the first 500 children ages 14 and under who are present at the expo when the doors open at 10:00 a.m. will receive a voucher for a FREE Kid Casters Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Steinhauser Deluxe or Dora no-tangle, rod-and-reel combo presented by News19.
